You get what you put in and honestly if you know exactly what you are burning you seem to work just a tad bit harder. For me I am extremely competitive not only with others but also myself. These numbers help me see if I am burning AT LEAST what I burned before with the same workout. Of course if you do different things you will get different results depending on the workout so this just goes to show you what you can get done weather it be 20mins of your day or if you have a whole hour to dedicate.
